Karen and Riaan – shabby chic beach wedding
Riaan and Karen living in Gauteng, South Africa decided that they would like a shabby chic beach wedding in Ballito, Kwazulu Natal, so they got in touch with Timeless Weddings to help them create the memorable day they desired. Although Karen had decided from the start that even though she preferred to do some of the wedding co-ordination herself, that she would need assistance with the more intricate details – which is where Timeless Weddings came into play.
Riaan and Karen wanted a shabby chic set up and had seen the decor that Timeless Weddings had done at a another wedding when they were in the area and looking for venues. They fell in love with the concept and decided it was exactly what they wanted – they just needed it tweaked to their colour scheme.
The wedding ceremony was held on Salmon Bay beach with the reception taking place at The Boathouse. They loved the fact that the reception venue opened out on the wooden deck area, affording their upcountry guests the perfect view of the beach.
Fortunately the weather turned out simply perfect for their wedding day, a little windy, but that was not a major concern as it did set the scene for some lovely photographs with the girls dresses blowing in the breeze.
The bridal party had their hair beautifully styled, and the make-up for Karen and the bridal party was done at Secrets Day Spa in Ballito.
Riaan’s Mom is most definitely a very talented baker and created the scrumptious wedding cake for them, transporting it all the way to Ballito without mishap and tying in the theme of the King Proteas to perfection. Well done Mom!
For the décor at the reception venue the table cloths were white, offset by table runners in a beautiful fabric with white and biscuit coloured stripes which tied in with the shabby chic beach look that Karen wanted to achieve. Tables were individually set up, where some were decorated with bird cages and others will bell jars – but all had the same theme of King Protea flowers, succulents and pillar candles.
While the photographs were being taken on the beach and in interesting locations around Ballito by Pickle Photography, the guests were treated to cocktails and canapés on the deck whilst watching the sun setting and the sea lapping gently on the shore.
Tara Blake provided the music for the ceremony playing her Violin to perfection as normal. Shaun Dickson from Active Audio took over from the pre-drinks and was the DJ for the reception, making it a party to remember.
Most of the family and friends present traveled from far and wide to attend this beautiful shabby chic beach wedding and I am sure that they all experienced the love and friendship that was evident on the day and no doubt will be long into the future.
Wishing you a fabulous marriage – you were both wonderful to work with and Timeless Weddings loved being part of your wedding day.
