Nichola and Cassian – Canelands Beach Club wedding
Nichola and Cassian first met at a mutual friends birthday party in 2008, and at the end of the evening parted as friends. It was only in 2011 when they met again at the same friends house that fate intervened and the relationship changed, and they have been inseparable ever since.
Nichola is from Nottingham in England and Cassian was born in South Africa, but grew up in Zimbabwe before moving abroad to pursue his career. Since the wedding they have settled in Hampshire near the beautiful city of Salisbury in the UK.
Cassian had originally planned to propose to Nichola on Valentine’s Day in 2014, but with being in the Armed Forces, he was suddenly called away to assist with a national flooding crisis that hit the country. This caused a bit of a predicament with his proposal plans, so he ended having to pop the question when he returned home a week later. An ecstatic Nichola had no doubt about accepting!
Planning a wedding from across the ocean was a daunting task for Nichola and Cassian, so they decided to enlist the services of Timeless Weddings to ensure that the planning ran smoothly and that they could enjoy the build up to their big day without the stress of being miles away.
As Cassian’s sister was expecting their third baby, having their wedding in the UK was proving challenging, so they decided to have a small intimate wedding in South Africa with family and close friends and selected the Canelands Beach Club as their wedding venue. Set right on the beach with magnificent sea views, it ticked all their boxes when it came to venue selection…and so the planning began.

The wedding was certainly a global affair and the guests had travelled from various parts of South Africa as well as Zimbabwe and the UK to witness the couples special day.
One of the special touches to the wedding was that their wedding cake was made for them by Cassian’s grandmother. Granny has been making cakes for decades and took great pride in being able to create a beautiful beach themed cake for the couple, which was only revealed to them the day before the wedding.
Rod conducted a wonderful, meaningful wedding ceremony for the couple, Lindsay Nixon ensured that Nichola looked stunning. Sue’s Flowers excelled themselves on the gorgeous bridal flowers and the country style flowers for the table settings.
Timeless Weddings took charge of all decor and styling requirements, while David Rees ensured that the moments were photographs to perfection.
The evening ambiance was highlighted with guests dancing on the deck, under a canopy of fairy lights and stars, whilst watching the waves and grooving to the sounds of an African Jazz band. A memory, I am sure, that they will all cherish for a long time.
To round off the celebrations, Nichola and Cassian will be renewing their vows in the UK during May for Nichola’s family that could not travel to South Africa. This will be a church blessing followed by a sunflower themed reception and Cassian’s Dad, who has not been to the UK for 20 years, is making the trip to be part of it all.
Cassian and Nichola – may you continue to dance under the stars for the rest of your lives – congratulations to you both!
